Description
Funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), this study, Comprehensive Maintenance Program to Achieve Sustained Success (COMPASS), was the first to examine the efficacy of two strategies designed to improve the long-term maintenance of weight loss in overweight children. Children, along with one participating parent, completed a family-based behavioral weight loss treatment. After completion of the weight loss program, families were randomly enrolled to receive either enhanced Social Facilitation Maintenance treatment (SFM+) or a health education program. Participating families completed assessments throughout the year-long treatment and over the course of two-year follow-up.
